On Monday, Catherine, Princess of Wales, issued an apology for an edited official photo that led news agencies, including AFP, to remove the image from their platforms.
“Like many amateur photographers, I do occasionally experiment with editing. I wanted to express my apologies for any confusion the family photograph we shared yesterday caused. I hope everyone celebrating had a very happy Mother’s Day. C”, the Prince and Princess of Wales posted on X.
The photograph, released to commemorate Mother’s Day in Britain, features the Princess of Wales seated on a garden chair, adorned in jeans, a sweater, and a dark jacket, accompanied by her three cheerful children, George, Charlotte, and Louis. However, upon closer inspection, Princess Charlotte’s left hand appears misaligned with the sleeve of her cardigan, raising questions about the authenticity of the image.
Following the publication of the palace-provided photograph, the Associated Press, Reuters, and AFP opted to retract it.
“It has come to light that this handout photo… had been altered and therefore it was withdrawn from AFP systems,” the agency said in a note to clients.
