IHC Grants Bail to Former Pakistan PM Imran Khan in Corruption Case Of £190 Million

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has granted bail to former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan in a corruption case involving £190 million, as reported by Pakistan’s Dawn news. The decision came after a two-member bench, led by IHC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri, reserved its verdict following arguments from the National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) prosecution team and Imran Khan’s lawyer, Sardar Latif Khan Khosa.

Imran Khan’s bail has been set at Pakistani Rupees (PKR) 1 million, although he remains in custody due to separate sentences in other cases. The IHC previously suspended his sentences in two Toshakhana cases.

During the court proceedings, NAB Special Prosecutor Amjad Pervaiz indicated that the trial of Imran Khan and his spouse is nearing conclusion, with a significant number of prosecution witnesses having testified.

The case involves allegations that Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, obtained substantial sums and land from Bahria Town Ltd. in exchange for legalizing £50 billion identified and returned by the UK during the previous PTI government. Imran Khan is accused of facilitating the illicit transfer of state funds into accounts designated for land payments by Bahria Town, Karachi.

The case also implicates property tycoon Malik Riaz Hussain and others, who are declared proclaimed offenders after evading legal proceedings. The court has frozen their properties pending further developments.

Imran Khan and his wife were indicted in February by a Rawalpindi accountability court, with ongoing legal battles and delays in the indictment process. Despite the bail in the recent corruption case, Imran Khan remains under legal scrutiny in multiple other cases.
