Why Everyday Plates Become Carb-Loaded

The biggest mistake, according to Singh, is pairing carbohydrates with more carbohydrates without realising it. A lunch of rotis and aloo-based sabzi might feel filling, but it delivers very little protein and minimal fibre. This can lead to energy dips, cravings and slower progress for anyone trying to manage weight or improve fitness.

Smarter Roti & Sabzi Choices

Singh suggests cutting back on the number of rotis rather than eliminating them. One or two rotis are enough for most people, he says, because overeating wheat can quickly spike blood sugar levels.

Sabzi portions, too, need a second look. He understands that aloo cooked at home has emotional value, but he reminds people that it is still a carbohydrate, and overloading the plate with it pushes out more essential nutrients.

Adding Fibre & Protein to the Plate

To correct that, Singh suggests inclusion of a small bowl of salad-just raw vegetables, leafy greens or anything fresh-to provide fibre and roughage. It improves digestion, keeps the stomach full for longer, and brings back nutrient diversity.

The other missing piece in most Indian lunches is protein. Singh suggests adding Greek yogurt if eating at work, since half a cup provides almost 20 grams of protein. Paneer is an easy high-protein substitute for those who don't like yogurt.

Singh does not advocate stringent dieting or cumbersome preparation. It is merely a question of reassessing proportions: fewer rotis, lighter sabzi portions, a dose of raw vegetables, and a reliable source of protein. Minor changes like these can help individuals feel more energetic throughout the day and achieve more realistic fitness goals. As Singh says, reworking your plate is one of the easiest ways to support long-term health.
