Wake Up Dead Man is a 2025 American mystery film and a standalone sequel to Glass Onion (2022) and the third installment overall in the Knives Out film series. It stars Daniel Craig, who reprises his role as master detective Benoit Blanc.
Reverend Jud Duplenticy, a former boxer turned Catholic priest, is reassigned to a rural parish after punching a deacon.
The parish, led by Monsignor Jefferson Wicks, struggles with a troubled congregation and a family history tied to a lost inheritance.
During a Good Friday service, Wicks is found stabbed with a devil’s head lamp adornment previously thrown by Jud, making him a prime suspect.
Police chief Geraldine Scott calls private detective Benoit Blanc to investigate, recruiting Jud despite objections. Investigations reveal Wicks had disavowed his followers and planned to retrieve Prentice’s fortune with Cy Draven, his alleged illegitimate son.
Jud later discovers Wicks and groundskeeper Samson in suspicious circumstances, and both corpses are found dissolving in acid at Dr. Nat Sharp’s house.
Blanc identifies Nat as the killer who manipulated events to frame Jud, but he cannot fully explain Wicks’ apparent resurrection or Samson’s death.
Wicks’ former assistant, Martha, reveals the true plot involving the diamond key to Prentice’s fortune and orchestrates the staged resurrection.
Martha dies after using poison to stop Nat, dropping the diamond, while Jud performs absolution for all victims. One year later, Jud reopens the church as Our Lady of Perpetual Grace, secretly hiding the diamond in a new crucifix as new parishioners arrive.
