Comedian and actor Kapil Sharma announced on Sunday that his newly launched café in Surrey, Canada, Kap’s Cafe, will reopen today—just days after it was hit in a shocking gunfire incident. The announcement came via Instagram Stories, where Sharma reshared a heartfelt update from the café’s official handle, adding, “Proud of you, team.”
The café team’s post read:
“Opening Tomorrow! The lights are on, the coffee’s warm, and our hearts are full… We’ve missed you and are truly grateful for your continued love and support. With heartfelt thanks, we’re opening our doors again—ready to welcome you back with warmth, comfort, and care.”
Kap’s Cafe, launched earlier this July by Kapil Sharma and his wife Ginni Chatrath, was envisioned as a cozy cultural spot for the local community. But the dream was temporarily shattered on July 9, when the café came under gunfire, with several bullets damaging its exterior and adjacent buildings.
The shocking incident was claimed by Harjit Singh Laddi, a fugitive and alleged operative of the banned Khalistani outfit Babbar Khalsa International (BKI). According to reports, Laddi claimed responsibility for the attack, alleging it was in retaliation for remarks reportedly made by Kapil Sharma. No formal statement has confirmed the nature of these remarks.
In the aftermath of the attack, the café team shared a moving message on Instagram:
“We opened Kap’s Cafe with hopes of bringing warmth, community, and joy… To have violence intersect with that dream is heartbreaking. We are processing this shock, but we are not giving up.”
Both locals and fans responded favorably to the post, with many sending messages, calling, and even coming in person to offer support.
Now, just a week later, Kap’s Cafe is reopening its doors, determined to carry forward its message of resilience. The announcement reflects the spirit with which the café was started—to be more than just a celebrity spot, but a place of comfort, conversation, and community.
Starting today, the café will resume operations from 8 AM to 10 PM daily. Whether it’s for a morning latte or an evening hangout, patrons are encouraged to return and support the team that stood firm in the face of violence.
Even as the café finds its footing again, Kapil Sharma continues to juggle multiple projects. He is currently hosting The Great Indian Kapil Show—Season 3 and is also gearing up for the much-anticipated film Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon 2.
With a mix of courage and comedy, Sharma’s story continues to evolve—this time, not just on the big screen, but also through the warmth of a café that refuses to close its doors on hope.
