The Bengal Files: Vivek Agnihotri’s Historic Trilogy Comes to a Powerful Finale on Taimur

Vivek Agnihotri’s the Bengal Files unveils historic tragedies and sparks discussions on Taimur’s legacy, releasing September 5 in theatres.

Between 2019 and 2022, filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri introduced viewers to critically successful films such as The Tashkent Files (2019) and The Kashmir Files (2022)-is now ready to woo audiences with his new project, The Bengal Files. The movie, formerly titled The Delhi Files: The Bengal Chapter, is about to bring to a close Agnihotri's Files Trilogy while plaguing complex history and politics into narrative storytelling.

The Bengal Files trailer has recently come out to grab audience's attention, delving into the 1946 Great Calcutta Killing incidents, the Noakhali riots, and names. One aspect that raised eyebrows online was a young character's introduction by the name Taimur. This seemed to hint at a connection to actor Saif Ali Khan and his wife Kareena Kapoor Khan's son, Taimur Ali Khan.

Vivek Clarifies the Controversy

Speaking on The Raunac Show, Vivek Agnithotri showed no excitement regarding any link between the character's name and that of the celebrity child.

He explained, "Many people name their children Taimur. This isn't the first time the name has been used." He further explained on how his visit back to Taimur Lang's tomb in Samarkand while shooting The Tashkent Files inspired him to learn more about historical source material.

On his film 'The Bengal Files', film director Vivek Agnihotri says, "Whenever a film is released in our country, there is always one or the other election. Bengal elections are in April 2026. Am I that stupid to release the film now? Had I wanted to release it with the Bengal elections, I would have released it.."

Historical Context Behind the Name

As Vivek noted, this is the historic importance of the name. Taimur conquered the Delhi Sultanate. and was made emperor.

But he also took over here and killed one lakh people in one-night, wreaked havoc through many areas including Haryana, Punjab and Kashmir. Although celebrated in his own land as a hero, he certainly does not deserve glorification here. Thus, naming a child after him is not an option.

The Bengal Files boasts a stellar cast that includes Darshan Kumar, Mithun Chakraborty, Anupam Kher, Pallavi Joshi, Simrat Kaur, Saswata Chatterjee and Namashi Chakraborty. The gripping historical background along with powerful performances combined makes the event possible, as it will hit theaters on September 5, truly snatching an experience full of sensory and intellectual experience.
