Tajikistani singer and social media influencer Abdu Rozik was arrested at Dubai International Airport early yesterday morning. He was arrested shortly after he landed from Montenegro, and although the authorities have not made a public announcement as yet, his manager has confirmed that he was arrested on suspicion of theft. Although the nature of the complaint is unclear, the arrest raised eyebrows considering the fame of Rozik as well as past controversy around him.
Rozik arrived in Dubai at approximately 5 am when authorities allegedly detained him, a member of the company operating Rozik informed Khaleej Times, "All we can tell you is that we are aware he has been arrested on charges of theft." Nonetheless, they declined to reveal more details, officials in Dubai haven't made an official statement on the arrest yet.
Abdu Rozik became a global celebrity with a mix of music, reality shows, and a personal life story, born with a deficiency in growth hormone, Rozik is barely more than three feet tall. However, he turned this disability into the platform of international fame, his work on shows such as Bigg Boss 16 and Entertainment Ki Raat Housefull garnered him a huge amount of affection from South Asian and Middle Eastern audiences.
He is famous for tracks such as Ohi Dili Zor, Chaki Chaki Boron, and Modar. Rozik performed the traditional Hindi song Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga at the 22nd IIFA Awards in 2022, solidifying his fame in India.
This isn't the first time Rozik has been under judicial inquiry in 2024, India's Enforcement Directorate questioned him in a money laundering inquiry related to a hospitality company. Though not accused, the questioning produced lots of media hype.
The latest, Rozik featured in Laughter Chefs: Entertainment Unlimited Season 2, which also had YouTuber Elvish Yadav where fans were able to enjoy their chemistry and banter. Rozik, however, left mid-season after he had gone to Dubai during Ramadan and Karan Kundrra later joined the show in his place.
Up to this point, Rozik is still in custody, and no official charges have been made, and the entertainment circle and his supporters are waiting for more clarity from Dubai authorities. With past investigations already behind him, this latest arrest has again put Abdu Rozik in the spotlight with great scrutiny.
