In a cold-blooded murder in Patna on Thursday evening, 60-year-old businessman Paras Rai was shot dead from behind by suspected assailants, apparently targeted as part of a property dispute. CCTV footage, which surfaced later, reveals the assailants stalking Rai to his home before he was murdered. The Danapur area, where the kill took place, still shook from the incident.

The Attack Unfolds

The footage shows that Rai was returning home when he was followed by six individuals on two motorcycles. As Rai approached the Naya Tola locality, three of the assailants dismounted and followed him on foot, carrying weapons and wearing helmets to conceal their identities. Rai, unaware of the danger, entered his house, only to be ambushed by one of the suspects who shot him in the back. The attackers then fired multiple rounds at him as he fell to the ground, before fleeing the scene.

Death and Investigation

Rai’s neighbours quickly rushed him to a private hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries during treatment. According to Superintendent of Police (West) Sarath RS, Rai was shot five times, with bullets hitting his legs and backside. Forensic experts have recovered five bullet shells from the scene. Authorities are investigating the possibility that the murder was linked to a longstanding dispute over Rai’s ancestral land.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Bhanu Pratap Singh confirmed that a case has been filed following a complaint from Rai’s son, who named the victim’s nine cousins as suspects in the attack. The police have initiated raids to apprehend those responsible for the brutal murder. The investigation continues as authorities work to uncover the full extent of the property dispute and its role in this deadly attack.
