Independence Day 2024: PM Modi Unveils Plan to Add 75,000 New Medical Seats in India Over Next 5 Years

During his Independence Day speech at the Red Fort, Prime Minister Narendra Modi revealed plans to add 75,000 new medical seats in Indian colleges over the next five years. This initiative aims to reduce the number of Indian students traveling abroad for medical education.

PM Modi explained, “Even today, many middle-class families send their children overseas for medical education, spending large sums of money. Around 25,000 students go abroad for medical studies each year, with some choosing countries that raise serious concerns. To address this, we will create 75,000 new medical seats in India within the next five years. Our vision for 2047, ‘Viksit Bharat,’ also includes a healthy India, which is why we have launched the Rashtriya Poshan Mission.”

He also noted that the government has already expanded medical seat availability to around 100,000 over the past decade.

The Prime Minister emphasized his goal of developing a robust education system in India that will make it unnecessary for students to study abroad. He also expressed a desire to attract more international students to Indian institutions.
