ECI announces poll dates for Nagaland, Meghalaya, Tripura; counting on 2 March

The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Wednesday announced the schedule of General Elections to Legislative Assemblies of Nagaland, Meghalaya and Tripura. 

Meanwhile, in Tripura the voting will take place on 16 February in single phase and in Nagaland and Meghalaya on 27 February and the results of all three states will be declared on 3 March 2023.

During a press conference Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said, “Voting for Assembly elections in Tripura will be held in a single phase on February 16 and in Nagaland and Meghalaya on February 27. The results will be declared on March 2.”

“The term of Assemblies of respective states in Nagaland, Meghalaya and Tripura are respectively due to expire on March 12, 15, and 22. The 3 states have 60 Assembly constituencies each,” the CEC said.

Earlier on Saturday, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar announced that in Nagaland, there are over 13.9 lakh registered electors, of whom 30,000 will be first-time voters in the upcoming elections. 

Moreover, last week, to review election preparedness in Nagaland and Tripura ECI teams led by Chief Election Commissioner Anup Chandra Pandey and Arun Goel concluded their visits.

However, a five-year term of three assemblies is ending in March. 

Furthermore, in the two-day National Executive Meeting of Bharatiya Janata Party, while addressing the meeting, National Party President J.P. Nadda said, “2023 is an important year for us, JP Nadda ji told us at the meeting. This year, we have to fight elections in nine states, while the Lok Sabha polls are due next year. The party members have been told that we have to win all nine state elections.” 

Union Home Minister on Tuesday said, said that until June 2024, J.P. Nadda will be national president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). 

“The tenure of JP Nadda as national president of the Bharatiya Janata Party has been extended till June 2024,” Shah said.
