Zoom calls have become synonymous with the lockdown, as they are instrumental to our survival in these difficult times. We have turned to digital mediums for professional meetings, school lessons, social gatherings with loved ones, as well as to learn new skills by attending webinars or online workshops. Things may be easing up with “unlockdown”, but Zoom and its digital variants are here to stay in our lives till social distancing norms remain in place.

As a lifestyle blogger, I am often asked to share easy and practical makeup tips to look professional for online calls and sessions. Hence, I have compiled all my knowledge in a tutorial-style video on my Instagram page, and will write the easy steps to follow here.

These makeup and fashion tips will ensure that you make a statement in your meetings without looking overdressed. Here is what you need to do:

1.MOISTURISE WELL

A healthy glow is important in order for your skin to look natural. Wear a good moisturiser that works with your skin type underneath your makeup.

2. WEAR A LIGHT COVERAGE FOUNDATION OR BB CREAM

There is no reason to cake on the foundation for an online call. However, it is important for your skin to look even toned. A BB/ CC cream works best for this purpose, but you can also opt for a light coverage foundation if you have scars or heavy pigmentation on your skin.

3. ADD COVERAGE WITH A GOOD CONCEALER

Unfortunately, BB/CC creams cannot cover the heavily pigmented areas under the eyes or around the mouth. For this, a good concealer that covers everything yet feels light on the skin is essential.

4. COMPACT POWDER TO REDUCE THE SHINE

If you have dry skin, you should skip this step. However, for oilyskinned people and those that deal with creasing of the concealer under the eyes, a compact powder is a must. This will stop you from looking excessively shiny and sweaty. Bear in mind that facial shine reflects quite strongly on the screen!

5. BRING COLOUR TO YOUR FACE WITH BLUSH

Once your skin tone looks more even with base products, it is important to bring some colour back to your face. A neutral blush applied liberally on the apples of your cheeks will do wonders. You can also add a bit of highlighter on the high points of your cheekbones for added glow.

 6. SKIP THE EYESHADOW BUT USE A GOOD EYE PENCIL

There is no need to fret over applying eye shadow for a professional call. However, you should play up the shape of your eyes by using a good eyeliner or eye pencil. Apply a subtle line on top of your lashes and pull it out into a small wing, to elongate your eyes for a doll-like effect.

 7. MASCARA IS A MUST

Skip the eyeliner if you are unused to or uncomfortable using it, but make sure to bring attention to your eyes with at least two coats of mascara on your lashes. This is a subtle way of looking like you put in a lot of effort, without actually doing so.

8. LINE YOUR LIPS FOR LONGEVITY

Wear a lip liner underneath your lipstick so that your lip colour stays put even if you are sipping on a drink through calls and webinars.

9. NUDE COLOUR OR UNDERSTATED LIPSTICKS ARE YOUR BEST BET

Wearing an understated lipstick makes one look more professional than wearing a loud colour.

10. WEAR A PATTERNED SHIRT TO STAND OUT

If you struggle to catch people’s attention in a multi-participant call, wear a patterned shirt or prominent colour to draw attention to yourself.

11. DELICATE JEWELLERY ADDS THE RIGHT PIZZAZZ

Wear a small necklace or dainty earrings to look put together and elegant. You will receive compliments, along with being taken more seriously.

Ultimately, there is no need to wear makeup when you are attending a Zoom call or webinar, however, if you choose to wear it, adhere to these simple tips for making the most effective impact and standing out in a digital crowd.
