Dr. Gurpreet Kaur (wife of Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann), while felicitating the newly born girl children with Lohri gifts and wishes at Bakarpur Village, stated that it is time to eliminate gender discrimination by promoting the Lohri celebrations of girls.
Participating in a Lohri function organized by MLA Derabassi Kulwant Singh Randhawa at Bakarpur, Dr. Gurpreet Kaur praised the efforts of the local MLA for sending a strong and positive message to society about the need to promote such positive changes. She mentioned that daughters are excelling in various fields nowadays, whether in education, politics, or key positions.

Applauding daughters for being supportive in every situation, she emphasized that the so-called gender inequality should come to an end. While acknowledging the changed mindset, she also stressed that there is still much work to be done.

Dr. Gurpreet Kaur highlighted that Punjab Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann is working relentlessly to make Punjab a land filled with job opportunities so that no parent misses their child migrating abroad.

MLA Derabassi Kuljit Singh Randhawa, while welcoming Dr. Gurpreet Kaur to the function, expressed that celebrating the Lohri of girl children is the best way to promote gender equality. He noted that daughters, blessed with extraordinary qualities, have touched new heights, making their parents proud.

He added that the Bhagwant Singh Mann government is also doing its best to transform Punjab into a vibrant and prosperous state. Students from Government Senior Secondary School Rampur Sainia performed the folk dance Gidha to the beat of the dhol.

Prominent individuals present at the event included Prabhjot Kaur, Chairperson District Planning Committee, Dr. Sandeep Garg, SSP, Viraj S Tidke, ADC (G), Himanshu Gupta, SDM Derabassi, and Darpan Ahluwalia, ASP Derabassi.
