Chandigarh Congress received a major boost, when three prominent political activists Master T R. Hiteshi, employee leader and President of an NGO Samajik Chetna Manch alongwith Amit Lahoria and Babita joined Congress party along with dozens of their supporters here at Congress Bhawan in presence of Pawan Kunar Bansal, former Union Minister and H S. Lucky, president of local unit of the party, who formally admitted them into party fold.
Both Amit Lahoria and Babita contested the last Municipal Corporation election as independent candidates from ward no. 26 and 28 respectively and got a significant number of votes.
Speaking on the occasion Pawan Kumar Bansal called upon all sections of the society to strengthen the hands of the Congress party in its fight to save democracy in the country, which is being destroyed by the BJP led Union government. He stated that the voice of the common people is being crushed and the country is being slowly turned into a totalitarian state. Accusing the BJP led government at the center of not fulfilling its election promises, Bansal stated that the unemployment is at all time high level in the country and the union government is destroying all employment generating avenues in the country. Speaking on the occasion, H.S. Lucky invited all those who are opposed to the communal and divisive agenda of the BJP to come to the Congress fold to save the country. Welcoming the new members of the party, he stated that they will be given important roles in the party to serve the people of the city. Master T.R. Hiteshi lauded the work done by the Congress party in making India a global power and said that the growth and progress India made in 67 years after independence are being reversed by the present government.Prominent among those, who joined the party today include Rahat, Rinku, Arun, Sanjay, Ajitesh, Amit Pohal and Nikhil.
