Despite Antigua and Barbuda Prime Minister Gaston Browne saying that fugitive diamond trader Mehul Choksi, who has been found in Dominica, will be repatriated to India and Indian authorities are in touch with those in Dominica, New Delhi may have to wait to get him as it doesn’t have an extradition treaty with that country.

Sources say that several complex legal issues will decide the fate of Choksi, including legal remedies available to him in Dominica. They say that the case isn’t as simple as seemed from the statement of the PM of Antigua and Barbuda, where Choksi sought refuge after fleeing India in 2018.

PM Browne said that Choksi, who has been found in Dominica. In an exclusive interview with ANI, he said Dominica has agreed Choksi’s repatriation and Antigua will not accept him back.
