DJ Diplo plays Morgan Wallen’s ‘Heartless’ at Super Bowl Party amid racial slur controversy

Washington [US], February 8 (ANI): DJ Diplo, who headlined the pre-Super Bowl LV party in Florida, chose to play a song by the country music star Morgan Wallen, who has been dropped by his record label and other organisations over a video featuring him using a racial slur.
Amid the fallout over the controversial singer’s use of the racial slur, the 42-year-old DJ played Wallen’s hit ‘Heartless’, his collaboration with the country singer, reported US Weekly.
A video posted by TMZ on Sunday, showed the DJ Diplo spinning the 27-year-old singer’s track during a Super Bowl LV party in Florida. Several maskless audience members raised their hands and could be seen singing along as the song played at about 1 am at the WTR Tampa Pool party.
However, Diplo isn’t the only one still playing Wallen’s music. Despite being dropped from several radio stations’ playlists, Wallen’s latest release ‘Dangerous: The Double Album’, is the first country album to spend its first four weeks at the No. 1 slot on the charts since Shania Twain’s ‘Up’.
Wallen came under fire on February 2 after a video surfaced of him saying the N-word during a night out in Nashville. The actions against the 27-year-old singer have been swift, with his booking agency WME dropping him.
Apart from this, the singer’s contract with the label Big Loud has also been suspended indefinitely. Wallen, whose new track ‘Dangerous: The Double Album’ is about to have a fourth week at the top of the charts, saw his music being taken down from major radio networks and streaming service playlists within hours of the video being published on TMZ last week.
Cumulus, which is powerful in the country radio sphere, sent out a directive to the program directors of all of its 400-plus stations with the header “MORGAN WALLEN — EXTREMELY IMPORTANT.”
The message read, “Team, unfortunately, country music star Morgan Wallen was captured on video Sunday evening using a racial slur. Effective immediately we request that all of Morgan Wallen’s music be removed from our playlists without exception. More to follow.”
Apart from these, radio giants like iHeartMedia and Entercom soon followed suit, as did the country music television network CMT. His music has also been pulled from the satellite service SiriusXM and the streaming service Pandora, as well as being removed from any visible spots on Spotify and Apple Music.
Wallen issued a statement on Tuesday night after TMZ first reported the incident, saying, “I am embarrassed and sorry. I used an unacceptable and inappropriate racial slur that I wish I could take back. There are no excuses to use this type of language, ever. I want to sincerely apologize for using the word. I promise to do better.”
Wallen has a history of having used the N-word on social media, quoting rap lyrics. In 2012, he tweeted a lyric by rapper Meek Mill, “I burn bread I ain’t talkin toast n—.” (That tweet was deleted from Wallen’s account on Wednesday morning.) (ANI)

Nick Jonas releases title track ‘Spaceman’ from upcoming solo album

Washington [US], February 26 (ANI): As the world struggles with the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, which brings a fresh supply of stress every day, we all need an escape, and what’s better than tuning into some fresh music? Singer Nick Jonas’ recently-released isolation-themed title track ‘Spaceman’ from his upcoming solo album of the same name could work as the perfect stress buster amid the health crisis.
The singer announced the forthcoming release of his new solo album titled ‘Spaceman’ on Thursday and dropped the lead single of the same name. The song expresses the singer’s melancholy of cosmic proportions, reflecting the detached perspective that comes from having spent a year spent in isolation amid great turmoil.
Nick took to Instagram to share the title track. He wrote, “The Spaceman era has begun. So excited to be starting this journey with all of you. I made this album while doing what most of us have been doing during this past year, sitting at home getting used to the new normal, and hoping for better days ahead. There are four central themes we will explore on this album… Distance. Indulgence. Euphoria. Commitment.”
He added, “Music has always connected the world and helped us to heal. I hope this music helps you on your journey through space and time… Thank you. Spaceman (the song) is officially out now and the album is available for pre-order before it lands on March 12th.”

The new track’s lyrics delve into the COVID-19 pandemic and the anxiety he felt during the 2020 election.
In the recently-released audio of the song, Nick can be heard singing, “They say it’s a phase, it’ll change if we vote / And I pray that it will, but I know that it won’t / I’m a spaceman. And the numbers are high but we keep going down / ‘Cause we ain’t supposed to live with nobody around / I’m a spaceman.”
The upcoming album will consist of 11 new songs including ‘This Is Heaven’, ‘Sexual’, and ‘Death Do Us Part’. During a recent conversation with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, Nick spoke about the album’s concept.
“I think the key for me was trying to find a way to give this idea a persona, give it a name. So ‘Spaceman’ came into my mind because I was thinking, ‘What’s the one thing that all of us have felt during this time?’ It’s just completely disconnected from the world,” the Jonas Brothers band member said.
He added, “We’ve gotten so accustomed to looking at a screen instead of human interaction, and I think the thing that keeps us all encouraged and hopeful is just the idea of knowing that there will be a tomorrow when this isn’t our reality, and I think the body of work as a whole tracks that.”
The singer further said, “But it felt like the right thing to start with ‘Spaceman’ because it is such a stark visual and creative idea to then start the conversation of songs like ‘This Is Heaven,’ which I’m really excited about. It touches on some of the things I did with ‘Jealous’ and tracks like that, but in a new way, and just trying to continue to get better and evolve every day, push myself.”
Nick, who writes several of his own songs, also told Lowe that most of his music is dedicated to his wife Priyanka Chopra Jonas.
Speaking about it, the singer said, “She loves it. Most of the songs are pretty much just love letters, which when I can’t articulate the way I feel with my words with no music, I go to the studio. And I’m grateful to have that because it makes her happy, and that’s most important.”
Nick will give the first live performance of ‘Spaceman’ when he pulls double duty as host and musical guest of American show ‘Saturday Night Live’ this weekend. He will also reclaim one of the spinning chairs on ‘The Voice’ when he returns as a coach for its 20th season, which is set to debut on March 1.
‘Spaceman’ marks the first solo project from any of the Jonas Brothers since the trio got back together in 2019. Apart from Nick, the Jonas Brothers trio includes Kevin Jonas and Joe Jonas.
The brothers’ most recent release as a group was last year’s holiday single ‘I Need You Christmas’. Nick’s new album will drop on March 12, this year. (ANI)

‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ will be Tom Holland’s final Spidey film under contract

By

Washington [US], February 26 (ANI): Hollywood star Tom Holland recently revealed that the now-officially titled Spidey threequel ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ will mark his final time suiting-up as the Webbed Wonder for the standalone films. But the actor is already setting his sights on a potential comeback and said that he would return “in a heartbeat” if asked.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the highly-anticipated release of Holland’s third solo film as the legendary superhero, ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’, will mark the end of the actor’s contractual obligations to lead standalone films built around the character.
Recently, during an interview with Collider, for his new Apple TV+ drama ‘Cherry’, Holland said, “I’ve always said to them if they want me back I’ll be there in a heartbeat, I’ve loved every minute of being a part of this amazing world. It’s changed my life for the better, I’m so lucky to be here. If they want me back I’ll be there, if they don’t I will walk off into the sunset a very, very happy person because it’s been an amazing journey.”
Before leading his first pair of solo Spidey flicks with the 2017’s ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ and its 2019 sequel ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’, the first time that Holland appeared in the classic comic book role of Peter Parker was with Marvel’s 2016 blockbuster ‘Captain America: Civil War’.
Apart from these, he has also appeared in several Avengers titles for Marvel and Disney. Though, his solo spin-offs were distributed by Sony under an unprecedented deal between the two studio mammoths, sharing the character rights. A brief rift occurred between the partners that nearly threatened to end Holland’s run as the hero.
As per Entertainment Weekly, the forthcoming ‘No Way Home’ is set to pick up after Parker’s identity was exposed in ‘Far From Home’. With series mainstays Zendaya reprising her role as Michelle and Marisa Tomei returning as Aunt May, Benedict Cumberbatch is set to appear as Doctor Strange in the movie. Jamie Foxx and Alfred Molina will also be stepping back into their roles from the past Spider-Man franchises as Electro and Doctor Octopus.
Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers have written the script for the forthcoming Marvel film.
Filmmaker Jon Watts has helmed the upcoming movie after directing ‘Spider-Man Homecoming’ (2017) and ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’ (2019), which earned more than USD 1.1 billion globally, making it the highest-grossing ‘Spider-Man’ movie of all time. (ANI)

Vivek Agnihotri comments on new OTT guidelines, says ‘demands finally being met’

Published

on

By

New Delhi [India], February 26 (ANI): Reacting to the new rules for digital news organisations, social media portals, and OTT platforms announced on Thursday, Bollywood director Vivek Agnihotri said that he believes “guidelines should be there and this is a good move.”
As the Union Ministers Prakash Javadekar and Ravi Shankar Prasad addressed a press conference to finalise the new rules, there were some new changes included to enhance strict oversight mechanisms involving several ministries.
With regards to the new guidelines, Vivek Agnihotri said, “There has been a demand since a long time especially from teachers, parents, activist to have a control on the perversion on OTT platforms. And it is in a way good, to know that the new guidelines address it. And they also will be considering the women who are objectified or any kind of disrespect shown towards women, which is a very good move.”
He further said, “Secondly the most important one, is that they have also made sure that if anyone has an issue, they can sort it out within 15days after being registered within 24 hours, this also allows the public to be involved and feel heard. Now we would also have an idea who we will be talking to especially with regards to social media, which I think is a good thing! I believe guidelines should be there and this is a good move.”
The all-new code of ethics which was announced on Thursday mandated intermediaries to ensure and exercise “due caution and discretion” in relation to the general principles around online curated content.
The main goal of these new guidelines is that the all-new document by the government would definitely caution online content platforms, perhaps not to impact India’s sovereignty and integrity.
Content on OTT platforms had recently fuelled controversy, leading to public outcry and the booking of makers of some programs.
Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting Prakash Javadekar had on January 31 announced that the Ministry will soon release guidelines on OTT platforms as it had been receiving a lot of complaints against some serials available online. (ANI)

Hrithik Roshan’s statement to be recorded tomorrow in case against Kangana Ranaut

Published

By

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], February 26 (ANI): Bollywood megastar Hrithik Roshan has been summoned to appear before the Mumbai crime branch at 11 am on Saturday to record his statement in a case he registered against actor Kangana Ranaut in 2016 involving an exchange of emails between the two.
In 2016, Roshan had filed a complaint alleging that someone impersonating him was emailing Ranaut from a bogus email id. Kangana had then claimed that the email id was provided to her by Roshan and they had been communicating through the same email id till 2014. The emails were allegedly sent in 2013 and 2014.
In 2016, Roshan had sent a legal notice to Ranaut after she had referred to him as a silly ex. Roshan had denied having any kind of relationship with Ranaut. The two actors had worked together in the films ‘Kites’ (2010) and ‘Krrish 3’ (2013). Roshan had then claimed that Ranaut had been sending him hundreds of absurd emails. In 2016, the Cyber Cell had also taken Roshan’s laptop and phone for investigation.
Roshan had accused Ranaut of harassing him by sending him hundreds of emails. Following an initial probe, police recorded Ranaut’s statement after concluding that the emails were allegedly sent from her id. However, Ranaut has denied sending emails to Roshan.
In December 2020, the case, which was earlier with the Cyber Cell of the Mumbai police, was transferred to Criminal Intelligence Unit (CIU) on a request made by Roshan’s lawyer Mahesh Jethmalani. (ANI)
