In a rare coincidence, Diwali and Halloween are set to be celebrated on the same day, October 31. These two distinct holidays have little in common, making it a challenge for many to prepare for both or choose one to celebrate.

To humorously capture the combination of the two holidays, social media users have turned to memes, showcasing the best of both worlds as the festival of lights collides with the spooky season.

Take a look at some viral mems here:

One user shared a video featuring a ghost performing aarti, captioning it: “When Diwali and Halloween fall on the same day—light up the diyas and dodge the ghosts!”

Many others referenced the popular sitcom ‘The Office’, where Steve Carell’s character, Michael Scott, humorously refers to Diwali as the ‘Indian Halloween’. In a memorable Diwali episode, Michael performs a funny Diwali song dedicated to the Goddess of Destruction, Kali.

Users, particularly those living abroad, expressed their plans to dress up as Michael Scott for Halloween, perfectly embodying the intersection of the two festivals.

Another user joked that Indian families would be handing out laddoos during Trick or Treat, a Halloween tradition where children in costumes go door to door collecting sweets.

One meme poked fun at workplace celebrations of both festivals, showing a group of people dressed as the horror movie character “The Nun” dancing to Tamannaah Bhatia’s hit song ‘Aaj ki Raat’.

Additionally, one creative user utilized Artificial Intelligence to blend the two holidays, resulting in an image of a woman in a saree working on a rangoli while a ghost sits beside her, surrounded by Diwali diyas and Halloween pumpkins.
