The Department of Floriculture, Parks, and Gardens organized a District Level Event/Kissan Mela/Conference under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme MIDH at Sartingal Bhaderwah on December 28, 2023. The event, inaugurated by District Development Council Chairman Dhananter Singh Kotwal and Vice Chairperson District Development Council Sangeeta Bhagat, aimed to promote Commercial Floriculture activities and enhance the welfare of farmers.

S. Jatinder Singh, JKAS Director General Floriculture, Parks & Gardens Jammu, graced the occasion as a special guest. The conference drew enthusiastic participation from the farming community, serving as a platform for farmers to interact with key stakeholders, exchange ideas, and stay updated on the latest developments in Floriculture.

DDC Chairman Dhananter Singh Kotwal urged the Floriculture Department to create mass awareness about government welfare initiatives and provide handholding support for the betterment of the farming community. He stressed the importance of adopting the latest technology, high-yielding varieties, introducing flower crops beyond Marigold and Lavender, and implementing scientific management practices to enhance farmers’ earnings.

Vice Chairperson District Development Council, Madam Sangeeta Bhagat, emphasized expanding the cultivation of Marigold, Lavender, and other cut flowers. She encouraged farmers to establish linkages with markets for better returns and urged women farmers to embrace commercial Floriculture on a larger scale for their social upliftment.

In his vote of thanks, Director General Floriculture, Parks & Gardens Jammu, S. Jatinder Singh, assured farmers of technical and financial assistance in line with established guidelines. Sarpanches and participants from various Panchayats applauded the efforts of the Floriculture Department, requesting the organization of more such camps and events in the future. The event concluded on a positive note, fostering a collaborative spirit for the promotion of Commercial Floriculture in the region.
