The newly-elected Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar has the quality of keeping everyone in good humour like BJP stalwart from Rajasthan and former vice president Bhairon Singh Shekhawat used to have. Like Shekhawat, Dhankhar is also fond of meeting people. He has good relations with the leaders of all political parties.
When Shekhawat was elected vice president during the regime of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, there was an atmosphere of celebration in Rajasthan. All parties had welcomed Shekhawat election as vice president. Similarly, Dhankhar’s victory is being hailed by one and all cutting across the party line in Rajasthan and elsewhere.
When Dhankhar visited Jaipur before being announced as the NDA candidate, Congress leaders also visited him at his residence. His younger brother Randeep Dhankhar is a Congress leader. Dhankhar has a good rapport with the leaders like Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot. This is attributable to Dhankhar’s politics at the grassroots level and his connection with the common people. He doesn’t have any god father in politics.
Haryana’s stalwart Tau Devi Lal made him join the politics in 1989. After making political debut from Janata Dal, Dhankhar joined Congress, and then moved to BJP around 2002. He worked as an efficient lawyer in cases like Ayodhya and Ajmer blast. He also got closer to the Sangh. Prime Minister Narendra Modi appointed him as Bengal governor. His good behaviour and attitude remained unaffected no matter where he was. Like Shekhawat, Dhankhar maintains good relations with leaders of all parties. What is believed is that with Dhankhar as a new incumbent, the Vice President House will again witness hustle and bustle due to visits of common people and leaders of all parties. This is exactly what was seen when Shekhawat was in the VP House.
