Deputy Commissioner Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, Aashika Jain, launched Swaraj Tractors’ CSR initiatives for the district: the Swaraj Shakti Scholarship Program and Mobile Learning Labs for Government Schools from the District Administrative Complex in Mohali on Wednesday, in the presence of Harish Chavan, CEO of Swaraj Division, and Arun Raghav, VP – HR, ER, Admin, and CSR.
The ‘Gyandeep Initiative’ under Corporate Social Responsibility is designed to address critical challenges at the grassroots level of education and comprises two impactful programs.
The Deputy Commissioner, who flagged off three Mobile Learning Labs (Mobile STEM Learning for Government Schools), said that the initiative would address the opportunity gap in education through scalable, hands-on experiential learning in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) for students in government schools. This program will cover government school children of Classes VI – X in SAS Nagar and includes various activities such as hands-on sessions, summer/winter camps, science fairs, and young instructor training. The overall goal is to increase awareness of alternative learning methods, enhance curiosity and explorative behavior, boost confidence in exchanging and communicating ideas, and foster increased interest in and understanding of science concepts.
Informing about the second initiative, the Swaraj Shakti Scholarship Program for female students of class X and class XII, she said that the program is aimed to empower and encourage female students of class X & XII from low-income families in the SAS Nagar district to pursue education and foster self-reliance. To be eligible for this scholarship, students must demonstrate academic excellence with a minimum of 55 percent marks in the previous class, along with financial need (family income not exceeding INR 4 lakh per annum). Selected students will receive fixed financial assistance of Rs 7,000 intended for academic purposes such as tuition fees, books, stationery, and travel expenses. The program will provide education support to girls from economically weaker families.
Harish Chavan, CEO Swaraj Division, stated, “Through the Gyandeep Initiative, Swaraj Tractors are committed to driving positive change in the lives of communities, fostering education as the key to unlocking potential and shaping a brighter future.”
The Deputy Commissioner, while applauding the noble initiative of Swaraj Tractors, a division of the Mahindra Group, said that the education field still needs a lot of contribution from industries under CSR, and we already have many programs in progress too. She said that the CSR activities will be benevolent for the students of government schools if done with the consent and proposal of the District Administration.
