The threat of dengue is increasing continuously in the national capital. Last year 38 cases of dengue were reported between January 1 and July 9, while this year 153 cases have been reported so far, with 10 new cases in the last one week.

This information came to the fore in the report released by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi on Monday. However, officials of the Public Health Department of MCD say that Delhi has been witnessing dengue cases since the beginning of this year.

According to the report, till July 2, Delhi had 143 dengue cases and on July 9, the number increased to 153. In January this year, 23 dengue cases were registered in February, 16 in March, 20 in April, 30 in May and 32 in June, while 10 new patients were reported till 9th ​​of July. The good thing is that not a single case of dengue death has been reported in the city so far.

Moreover, a total of 9,613 dengue cases were reported in Delhi last year, the highest since 2015. At that time, dengue had killed 23 patients in Delhi. This figure of dengue deaths in Delhi was the highest since 2016.

However, Delhi recorded two dengue deaths in 2019, four in 2018 and 10 in 2017. According to official figures, Delhi reported 4,431 dengue cases in 2016, 4,726 in 2017, 2,798 in 2018, 2,036 in 2019 and 1,072 in 2020. The year 2015 saw a massive dengue outbreak in Delhi and in the month of October alone, more than 10,600 new cases were reported.
