Reacting to the demolition of three madrasas by the Assam government for its alleged involvement in anti-national activities, Assam Congress said that it’s a hidden plan of Badruddin Ajmal-led All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) and ruling BJP to do polarizing politics ahead of 2024 general election.

Congress MLA Abdur Rashid Mandal alleged that by targeting Madrasas BJP has tried to give an opportunity to AIUDF to go to the Muslim people to do polarizing politics so that BJP can get benefits. “Both BJP and AIUDF have a hidden understanding and they are doing polarizing politics. Apart from it, by demolishing Madrasas the BJP-led government is trying to dilute the burning issues like price hike, unemployment etc,” Abdur Rashid Mandal said.

The Congress MLA told ANI that, the Congress party has condemned the Assam government’s activities against Muslim, Madrasas.

“We are totally against Jihadi, terrorism. But, the state government’s act of demolishing Madrasas is totally condemnable and we are strongly opposing it. If the government found any Jihadi or terrorist, they can arrest them, take strong action against them, but demolishing Madrasa is a violation of the constitution,” Abdur Rashid Mandal said.

Hitting out at the BJP and RSS, Abdur Rashid Mandal said that the BJP and RSS are trying to finish Islam religion in the country by targeting Madrasas.

“Only 2 per cent Muslim students have studied in Madrasas and every year, many Imam, Maulanas come from the Madrasas who are taking the Islam religion forward. If the Madrasas are demolished, then no Imam, Maulana will be in future. It’s a part of their agenda to make Hindu Rashtra,” Abdur Rashid Mandal said.

Accusing AIUDF of doing polarizing politics, the Congress MLA said that, AIUDF is trying to keep Muslims of Assam isolated.

A delegation of All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) and Assam State Jamiat Ulama led by Badruddin Ajmal on Thursday night met Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma at Janata Bhawan and submitted a memorandum regarding demolition of Madrasa building.

AIUDF Chief and Lok Sabha MP Badruddin Ajmal along with a delegation on Thursday visited the demolition site and took note of the situation. The delegation also slammed the state government and the Bharatiya Janata Party for the bulldozer drive against the madrassa.

“But why only Madrasa is targeted? Is it not from any other place, why the other places are ignored??Search every school, college, and university. Why only Madrasa? They forget 150 years of good work done by the Madrasas. If you find a person guilty, would you raze the entire Madrasa? If you found one or 10 Jihadis then arrest them, we have no issue. But demolishing Madrasa is illegal,” said Ajmal. Calling jihad and terrorism a challenge for the country, he said no compromise should be made regarding security. “Jihadi terrorism is a challenge for the country and for the peaceful environment of the country. There should be no compromise on this. If any Jihadi is found anywhere in Madrasa, School or College, the government should catch him/her and can take action. We have nothing to say on this,” he added.

He also took a jibe at the state government and said that people who have personal interests vested in the demolition should be unmasked. “Today, the Assam Chief Minister said that he has no intention to demolish Madrasa, now the question arises that, who has the personal interest to demolish Madrasa. We will have to see this,” said Ajmal.

He also aligned towards seeking legal help if required and said, “We will challenge it before the court and if needed we will move the Supreme Court”.
