A food delivery agent tragically lost his life in Pune’s Mundhwa area after being hit by an Audi car early Friday. The driver, identified as Ayush Tayal, attempted to flee the scene but was soon apprehended by the police. The accident occurred around 1:35 am when the car first collided with a two-wheeler, injuring three individuals, before hitting the victim, Rauf Shaikh, from behind. Shaikh sustained critical injuries and was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
A senior police officer explained, “The accused hit a two-wheeler, injuring three people, and then struck Rauf Shaikh’s motorcycle from the rear. He was taken to the hospital but unfortunately did not survive.” After fleeing, Tayal was tracked through CCTV footage and arrested at his residence in Hadapsar.
Tayal now faces charges under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Motor Vehicles Act, including rash driving and causing death by negligence, with the case registered at Mundhwa Police Station.
The incident bears similarities to another high-profile case in Pune earlier this year involving a speeding Porsche driven by a 17-year-old, which led to the deaths of two people. The Porsche case drew public outrage, particularly regarding the leniency shown towards the minor involved. The investigation continues, with charges also brought against the parents of the minor and doctors at Sassoon Hospital for allegedly tampering with evidence. The Maharashtra government recently dismissed two state-appointed members of the Juvenile Justice Board, Pune, for “misuse of power” in relation to that case.
