The number of Covid-19 cases in the national capital has crossed the one lakh mark. However, of the total cases, nearly 72,000 patients have been discharged after full recovery, leaving only 25,620 active cases. According to an official statement, the case fatality rate in Delhi at present is 3.09 per cent while the recovery rate is at 71.73 per cent.
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, in a press conference on Monday, urged patients who have recovered from the disease to come forward and donate plasma. Kejriwal also asked the hospitals treating Covid-19 patients to counsel them about the need and safety of plasma donation before they are discharged so that there’s no hesitation from their side later. The CM said there’s nothing to worry as the number of patients who have recovered is as high as 72,000; so if they come forward and donate plasma, there is no need to panic.
“The graph of corona has further improved over the past week. In the month of June, 35 out of 100 recovered corona patients came forward to donate plasma, but now only 11 out of 100 patients come forward which is a major concern. 20,000 to 24,000 tests are being done daily. In all the hospitals, there are about 5,100 patients and 10,000 beds are vacant. There were about 125 deaths in Delhi in a single day in June, but now the death toll has halved,” CM Kejriwal said.
He further added, “At present in Delhi, there is no problem of testing or of beds. At the top of our app, you can see how many beds are empty. Out of 25,000 patients who are home quarantined, 15,000 of them are undergoing treatment. If the number of plasma donors does not increase, all the plasma in our bank will get over. I fold my hands and request as many people as possible to come forward and donate plasma. There is no need to panic, you will not feel weak nor will there be any pain.”
The first plasma bank in the country was started last week on Thursday by the Delhi government. Plasma has been tested to improve the condition of moderately affected patients and help reduce the number of deaths. The chaos for plasma has diminished in recent days, but the demand for plasma is still high and the supply is very low.
“Some people are worried that if someone assists you to the hospital, there will be a spread of the infection, but you should remember that ILBS is a non-corona hospital. A team of mine is calling up all recovering patients and appealing for plasma donation. If you get a call, definitely donate, don’t let it down. All the hospitals treating corona should counsel the patients when they recover and tell them that they can donate plasma when they recover and save lives,” the Chief Minister said.
Delhi saw a total of 99,444 cases till Sunday and crossed the one lakh mark as this week began. Plasma donation is the need of the hour and more number of recovered patients are expected to come forward for the cause.
