New Delhi: In a major move to strengthen security at the Delhi Legislative Assembly, authorities have decided to construct a watchtower and a dedicated patrolling track within the Assembly premises. The initiative forms part of a broader security overhaul aimed at preventing unauthorized access and ensuring the safety of lawmakers, staff, and visitors.

The decision comes in the wake of a recent security breach that raised concerns about the vulnerability of the Assembly complex. Following a comprehensive review of existing security arrangements, officials identified the need for enhanced surveillance and quicker response mechanisms. The proposed watchtower will provide security personnel with a clear vantage point to monitor activities across the Assembly grounds, while the patrolling track will facilitate regular and efficient movement of security teams around the perimeter.

According to officials, the security upgrade will also include the installation of advanced hydraulic road blockers at key entry points to prevent unauthorized vehicles from entering the premises. Additional measures such as improved access-control systems, strengthened perimeter fencing, and the deployment of mobile patrol vehicles are also being planned.

Assembly authorities stated that the objective is to create a multi-layered security framework capable of responding swiftly to potential threats. The new infrastructure is expected to significantly improve surveillance coverage and enable security personnel to maintain constant vigilance over the complex.

Security experts have welcomed the move, noting that legislative buildings are high-profile public institutions that require robust protection. They emphasized that watchtowers and dedicated patrol routes can serve as effective deterrents against intrusions while enhancing coordination among security personnel.

The Delhi Legislative Assembly, one of the most important administrative institutions in the national capital, witnesses regular visits by legislators, government officials, media personnel, and members of the public. Ensuring the safety of the premises has therefore become a priority for authorities.

Officials indicated that work on the proposed facilities is expected to begin soon after the necessary approvals and technical assessments are completed. The project is part of a wider effort to modernize security infrastructure and align it with contemporary safety standards.

With the planned upgrades, the Assembly administration hopes to create a safer and more secure environment, reducing the risk of future breaches and ensuring the uninterrupted functioning of legislative activities.
