New Delhi: Delhi’s Saket Court on Monday extended the police custody of hotel owner Lavkesh Bajaj by two more days in connection with the Malviya Nagar fire tragedy that claimed 22 lives.

Bajaj was produced before the Saket Court after completion of his earlier four-day police remand.

During the hearing, Delhi Police sought further custody, stating that the investigation was still underway.

The court accepted the request and granted two more days of police remand.

In the same case, accused cook Keshav Negi was sent to 14 days of judicial custody.

The court also rejected his bail plea.

Negi was produced before the court after completion of his two-day police remand.

According to police, Bajaj told investigators that he was not directly involved in the day-to-day management of the hotel.

He claimed that building operations, accounts and other management responsibilities had been entrusted to another person.

He also said that structural changes, including increasing the size of rooms, were suggested by the same individual.

Police said Bajaj admitted that the hotel did not have a valid Fire NOC. He also stated that he had taken the building on lease around three years ago and was operating it as a bed-and-breakfast facility.

Meanwhile, accountant Jay Mishra has been formally arrested after surrendering before the Saket Court.

The court granted Delhi Police two days of custody for his interrogation. Police told the court that several documents recovered during the investigation were linked to Mishra.

Delhi Police are continuing their probe into the deadly fire and are examining records from multiple departments.
