The India Meteorological Department (IMD) announced on Wednesday that Delhi is likely to experience rainfall by the end of June, signaling an improvement in weather conditions for the capital and surrounding regions.

“In Delhi NCR, the temperature is expected to hover around 40 degrees Celsius. The monsoon is projected to hit Delhi NCR around June 30th. Today, we can also anticipate dust storms and light-intensity rainfall,” said IMD scientist Dr. Naresh Kumar.

Despite the optimistic forecast, the IMD has issued an Orange alert for Delhi, Punjab, and Haryana, indicating the potential for significant weather events. “Yesterday, we issued a red alert for Punjab, Haryana, Delhi NCR, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar, but today conditions have improved. Bihar has already seen rainfall. For Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi NCR, we have downgraded to an Orange alert. However, West Uttar Pradesh remains under a red alert for the next two days,” Dr. Kumar added.

The regional meteorological center, an IMD subsidiary, predicts the minimum temperature in Delhi to be around 34 degrees Celsius. However, heatwave conditions are still expected in several areas. “Heatwave conditions will persist in parts of Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi, with isolated areas in Jammu & Kashmir also affected. Warm night conditions are anticipated in some areas of Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi, as well as isolated places in Rajasthan,” noted the IMD.

As the region braces for the anticipated monsoon, residents are advised to stay updated with the latest weather forecasts and alerts to navigate the changing conditions safely.
