A tragic incident occurred in Delhi’s Seelampur area, where a 40-year-old woman died of suffocation in a fire that broke out at her DDA flat. The woman, whose identity has not been disclosed, was found dead on the spot with no burn injuries. The Seelampur police station received a call about the fire at 3.13 pm on Monday.

Delhi Fire Services (DFS) Chief Atul Garg stated that upon receiving the call, two fire tenders were immediately dispatched to the double-storey residence. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, but police suspect the woman died of asphyxia. A burnt sofa was found inside the flat.

The deceased woman is survived by her 13-year-old daughter, husband, sister, and brother. It has been revealed that she was undergoing treatment for depression at the Institute of Human Behaviour and Allied Sciences (IHBAS). Police have recorded statements from the family members and have stated that there is no suspicion of foul play at this point. However, investigations are ongoing.

The body has been moved to the GTB Hospital mortuary. This incident adds to the recent spate of fire-related tragedies in the national capital. Just recently, on May 25, a fire at the Baby Care New Born Hospital in Vivek Vihar resulted in the deaths of six newborns. Additionally, on June 8, a fire at an agro-processing plant in Narela Industrial Area claimed the lives of three workers.
