A 47-year-old man accused of molesting a woman in Northeast Delhi died after jumping off a police van. The incident occurred on Tuesday night when a 21-year-old woman reported the molestation to the New Usmanpur police station.
Upon responding to the call, the police arrested Pramod. However, during transit to the police station, Pramod, who was inebriated and vomiting, managed to open the glass window of the police van and jumped off. The accused sustained injuries and was rushed to JPC Hospital.
Due to unavailability of a CT-Scan at GTB Hospital, he was referred to LNJP Hospital, where the lack of ICU Ventilator beds prevented his admission. Subsequent attempts at RML Hospital were also unsuccessful. Pramod was eventually taken back to JPC Hospital, where he was declared dead at 5:45 AM.
Investigations revealed Pramod’s criminal history, including a previous attempt to murder charge. The police registered a case under sections 354, 354A, 506, 509, 323 IPC at the New Usmanpur police station. A medical board is being formed for the post-mortem, and further investigation is underway.
