The Delhi High Court has directed the AAP government to take decision on the removal of Delhi Minorities Commission (DMC) chief Zafarul Islam Khan for hateful post on social media within two weeks. The HC has asked the government to resolve the matter in accordance with Section 4(4) (f) of the Delhi Minorities Commission Act.
In a social media post, Khan had allegedly threatened and warned about a foreign attack on India on Facebook using words which were full of hatred, seditious and were allegedly seen as a threat to India’s sovereignty. An FIR under Section 124A and 153A of the Indian Penal Code was filed against Khan by the Delhi Police’s Special Cell on 2 May 2020. Fresh notices were issued to the DMC, Zafarul Islam Khan and the Delhi government by the Division Bench of Justice Manmohan and Justice Sanjeev Narula.
The notice said that Khan has abused the power of his position as DMC chief and his continuance on the post is detrimental to public interest. The petitioner claimed that Khan has defamed the Minorities Commission in the international community for allegedly promoting hatred among people based on religious difference.
