To register 18-19-year-old voters, the District Administration has launched a robust campaign featuring special camps.
The inaugural camp took place at Amity University, where approximately 400 students successfully registered through the voter helpline mobile app and the online portal (National Voter Service Portal) nvsp.in.
Deputy Commissioner Aashika Jain joined the students to encourage them to become voters and urged them to be messengers of democracy by maximizing their enrollment.
During interactions with the students, she briefed them on the importance of democracy and elections. Commissioner Jain highlighted that the Election Commission of India has simplified the voter registration process for those turning 18. Eligibility now extends to individuals who reach 18 on January 1, April 1, July 1, or October 1 in a given year, expanding from the previous requirement of January 1 alone.Addressing questions about voting rights, EVMs, and VVPAT, she explained the flawless operation of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and endorsed the reliability of VVPAT machines in verifying votes through random checks and reconciliation of slips.Deputy Commissioner Jain encouraged students to spread awareness about exercising their voting rights within their communities. She emphasized the significance of sensitizing as many people as possible to participate in the upcoming festival of democracy.
Among the officials present were SDM Mohali Chandrajyoti Singh, District SVEEP Nodal Officer Prof. Gurbaksh Singh Antal, University Registrar Dr. Dilip Kumar, and Assistant Director (Operations) Sachin Saini. Students Vanshika Maggo and Namit Gulati were designated as Campus Ambassadors to keep their peers informed about the Election Commission of India’s SVEEP activities.
