Hollywood star Daniel Craig became a top trending topic on Google Search in India on Thursday, experiencing a remarkable 600% surge with over 10,000 searches in the last 24 hours. This spike in interest was triggered by the release of the first promo for *Queer*, a historical gay romance-drama, on September 3.

Directed by Luca Guadagnino and written by Justin Kuritzkes, *Queer* is an adaptation of the 1985 novel by William S. Burroughs. Set in 1940s Mexico City, the narrative follows an American expat who becomes enthralled by a younger man. According to a Reuters report, Craig’s character, William Lee, leads a solitary life in Mexico City, frequenting bars and drinking hard liquor until he becomes infatuated with a quiet bisexual man, played by Drew Starkey, who joins the seedy U.S. expat community.

In a recent interview, Craig discussed the film’s intimate scenes, noting, “There’s nothing intimate about filming a sex scene on a movie set. We aimed to make it as touching, real, and natural as possible. Drew is a fantastic actor, and we had a good time, trying to keep it fun.”

To build greater intimacy between their characters, Craig and Starkey took movement and dance classes together. “It broke the ice with the two of us,” Craig shared. “We worked very hard together and so we just sort of threw ourselves into it, into kind of, you know, into the whole thing.”

The film is based on an unfinished novel by U.S. author William S. Burroughs. Guadagnino and Kuritzkes extended the story, taking the characters on a journey into the jungle in search of a hallucinogenic drug.
