Nowadays, the drug smuggling business has extended to parcels as well. The Crime Branch Sector 19 has arrested an accused involved in drug smuggling through parcels. The arrested individual was identified as Piyush Sharma, a resident of Chaukin village in the Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh. The police presented the accused in court and obtained a 7-day police remand. Providing information, Crime Branch Sector 19 Inspector Mohinder Singh Dhanda stated that, under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner of Police Sumer Pratap Singh, strict actions are being taken against drug smugglers to curb drug abuse in the district. The team successfully apprehended the accused who was smuggling hashish through a parcel.

The police received information from the company, DTDC Express, that two parcels had arrived destined for Mumbai, Maharashtra. The parcels, which were checked by the machine, were found to contain some suspicious substance. Upon receiving the information, the Crime Branch, along with its Sector 19 team, reached the location. After summoning NDPS nodal officer Ajay Kumar to the spot, the courier company’s manager inspected the two parcels and recovered 260 grams of hashish from one packet and 310 grams of hashish from the other. Subsequently, the police registered a case under the NDPS Act at Sector 20 police station and initiated an investigation. Taking action, the police arrested the main accused mentioned above, who was sending the intoxicant charas from Kullu, Himachal Pradesh, to Mumbai. They presented him before the court and took him into police custody for 7 days
