A body, wrapped in a jute bag, has been found in a drain of Chota-Ganda-nala near Sushil International School Pandwala Kalan Najafgarh on Gumanhera Road.

Police said the body was dumped by a couple who were have been arrested. On February 8, Jaffarpur Kalan Police station received a call regarding a body found in a drain. The police team immediately reached the spot but could not identify the body in the absence of any proof of identity. “After sustained efforts, the body was preserved in the mortuary and as per the facts and circumstances, a case vide FIR No. 49/22 U/s 302 IPC P.S Jaffarpur Kalan was registered,” the police said.

After investigation, the police identified that the body is of a person named Sonu and apprehended Daulat Ram who had eloped but returned to his house with an intention to take away his belongings.

While investigating the matter, the team found bloodstains in the backyard of Ram’s residential accommodation. On sustained interrogation, he accepted that he, along with his wife, had killed Sonu.

Daulat Ram disclosed that he knew Sonu for around 18 years and both were working as labourers in Delhi. Ram said that Sonu developed relations with his wife and was forcing her to elope with him to which she refused saying that she cannot leave her children.

On the night of February 8, Sonu had entered Ram’s room through the backside broken door and threatened Ram’s wife with a pistol to kill her son if she did not elope with him. When she screamed, Daulat Ram woke up and challenged Sonu. In a scuffle, they both went out of the room towards the backyard. Daulat Ram snatched Sonu’s pistol and immediately fired at him. After that, Ram and his wife wrapped Sonu’s body in a jute bag and took it in a rickshaw to dump it into the drain, which was about one kilometre from their house. They also dumped the country-made pistol and cellphone of the deceased in another drain which was further one km from the spot.

According to the police, “On the disclosure of the accused person, the country-made pistol, mobile phone of deceased and two live cartridges were recovered from the drain after extensive exercise using powerful magnet and divers.”
