Russian President Vladimir Putin has praised Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi. Putin claimed that despite pressure from the West, India-Russian ties are strengthening as a result of Modi. He went on to say that Modi was not intimidated by the West to sever relations with Russia. The commendation is brief after a significant declaration made by the External Affairs Minister of India. S. Jaishankar stated that New Delhi has frequently been saved by India-Russian relations.
Putin stated that the two nations’ relations have been “developing progressively” in all directions, while highlighting their bilateral ties.
“I would like to say that relations between Russia and India are developing progressively in all directions, and the main guarantor of this is the policy pursued by Prime Minister Mr. Modi,” Putin said when asked about what the two countries could do to speed up the expansion of bilateral trade. He is exactly one of the global political leaders about whom I have spoken without mentioning names.”
Regarding the exchange of goods and services between the two nations, he continued “Last year it was 35 billion dollars per year, and in the first half of this year it was already 33.5 billion. That is, the growth will be significant. Yes, we all understand that, to a large extent, India receives preferences due to discounts on Russian energy resources. Well, he’s actually doing the right thing.”
“If I were them, I would also do the same if the situation develops this way. They make money, and rightly so. But, of course, this is not enough. We have much more opportunities. In the global ranking of the world’s economies by purchasing power parity and by economic volume, India ranks third in this list and Russia fifth,” he added.
Putin also said, according to the Russian President’s Office, that he would discuss the North-South Corridor with Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and added that India is interested in implementing such routes.
