Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday said that the party would soon announce the chief ministerial candidate for Punjab and that Navjot Sidhu and Charanjit Singh Channi had assured him that they would support each other with full spirit irrespective of whosoever was declared the CM face.

Addressing a gathering in Jalandhar during his daylong visit to Punjab to launch the party’s campaign for the Assembly election, Rahul Gandhi said: “I was asked by Chief Minister Channi and Navjot Singh Sidhu for declaring the CM face as our workers need the name to fight the Assembly elections. I agree with the same thought but two people can’t lead, only one can lead. If one leads, the other has promised to extend all support.”

“We will ask Congress workers to decide on the chief ministerial candidate,” Rahul added.

“People have this question in their mind: who will rescue them from this crisis (in Punjab)? And what’s the roadmap? And the third question is: who is the face who will implement these reforms?” said Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu. “Like a disciplined soldier, I assure Rahul Gandhi that I will abide by his decision,” he added.

But Sidhu also sought to convey the message that he wanted more power to decide and would not be treated like be supplied for programmatic setting and all vaccinations done within the country to be recorded on CoWIN platform and AEFI, AESI shall continue to be monitored. Covishield is manufactured by Pune-based Serum Institute of India while Covaxin is manufactured by Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech.
