Congress took a jab at Prime Minister Narendra Modi prior to his inaugural trip abroad in his third term, stating that he is heading to Italy in order to ‘salvage diminished international image’ during this year’s G7 summit.

The G7 Summit, involving the heads of state from the USA, Canada, Germany, France, Italy, the UK, and Japan, has been convened since the late 1970s, as noted by Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh.

Ramesh also noted that between 1997 and 2014, Russia was additionally a member.

Furthermore, it was mentioned that since 2003, India, China, Brazil, Mexico, and South Africa have also received invitations to G7 Summits.

Accompanied by a high-level delegation, Modi will journey to Italy on Thursday to participate in an outreach session for the summit on June 14. This marks his inaugural overseas visit since assuming office for the third term as prime minister.

The upcoming G7 summit, set to take place at the luxury resort of Borgo Egnazia in Italy’s Apulia region from June 13 to 15, is anticipated to focus heavily on the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and the situation in Gaza.
