Rahul Gandhi led the Congress’ Bharat Jodo Yatra into Madhya Pradesh from the village of Boderli, which is located on the Maharashtra border. Rahul Gandhi was there when the Madhya Pradesh Congress chief Kamal Nath received the yatra flag from Maharashtra Congress chief Nana Patole.
Speaking at the occasion, Gandhi said, “This yatra is against hatred, violence and fear being spread in the country. We have started the Bharat Jodo Yatra by taking the tricolour in our hands from Kanyakumari. Nobody can stop this tricolour from reaching Srinagar.”
Over the course of the following 11 days, the yatra will pass through seven districts in Madhya Pradesh, starting at the Boderli bus stop at St. Xavier International School Jainabad Fata in the Burhanpur district.
Congress communications in-charge Jairam Ramesh said that Burhanpur has a “long history and became an important place during Mughal rule especially during Shah Jahan’s reign.”
“One-sixth of Burhanpur district’s cultivated area is covered with bananas and it’s also one of the centres of the powerloom industry. @RahulGandhi will be interacting with banana growers and powerloom workers today afternoon,” he said in a tweet.
At the evening, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and her family are anticipated in Burhanpur to join her brother on the yatra. On November 24 and 25, she will take part in the yatra between Burhanpur and Indore, according to Kamal Nath. Priyanka Gandhi will be taking part for the first time in the Congress’s massive outreach campaign, which is headed to Kashmir from Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu.
Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Maharashtra have so far been visited by the yatra.
A right-wing group protested on Tuesday in Burhanpur City in response to Gandhi’s comments about freedom fighter V. D. Savarkar. The Hindu Jagran Manch (HJM) also called for action against the former Congress leader for “inciting public sentiments” in the posters they put up.
During a press conference in the Maharashtra district of Akola, Gandhi had displayed some old documents, alleging they contained a letter that Savarkar had written to the British.
