Currently, the Congress party has announced its candidate lineup for 231 seats in the Lok Sabha elections. In Uttar Pradesh, which has the highest number of MPs, the party has declared candidates for 13 seats.
Imran Masood will be the candidate for Saharanpur, Dolly Sharma for Ghaziabad, Ajay Rai for Varanasi, and Nakul Dubey for Sitapur. In Rajasthan, traditionally viewed as the Bharatiya Janata Party and NDA’s stronghold, Congress has unveiled candidates for 22 out of the 25 seats.
Govind Ram Meghwal will contest from Bikaner, Anil Chopra from Jaipur Rural, Pratap Singh Khachariyawas from Jaipur, Murari Lal Meena from Dausa, Harish Chandra Meena from Tonk-Sawai Madhopur, Karan Singh Uchiyarda from Jodhpur, Vaibhav Gehlot from Jailore, and C.P. Joshi from Bhilwara.
In Bihar, Congress has nominated Tariq Anwar for Katihar, along with two others for Bhagalpur and Kishanganj seats. In Madhya Pradesh, out of a total of 29 seats, Congress has declared candidates for 25.
Digvijaya Singh will run from Rajgarh, Akshay Bam from Indore, Arun Shrivastav from Bhopal, Nakul Nath from Chhindwara, and Dinesh Yadav from Jabalpur. In Uttarakhand, Congress has named candidates for all five seats, while in West Bengal, it has announced candidates for 10 out of 42 seats.
The party has also revealed candidates for all 11 seats in Chhattisgarh, with former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel contesting from Rajnandgaon. In Assam, the Congress has announced candidates for 13 out of the total 14 seats. Lok Sabha MP Gaurav Gogoi will run from Jorhat, Mira Barthakur Goswami from Guwahati, and Hafiz Rashid Ahmed Choudhury from Karimganj.
In Gujarat, the party has nominated candidates for 17 out of the total 26 seats. Sonal Patel will contest from Gandhinagar, J.P. Marvia from Jamnagar, Nilesh Kumbani from Surat, and Anantbhai Patel from Valsad. In Jammu and Kashmir, Ch. Lal Singh will contest from Udhampur, and Raman Bhalla will contest from Jammu.
In Karnataka, Congress has unveiled candidates for all 28 seats. Geetha Shivarajkumar will contest from Shimoga, D K Suresh from Bangalore Rural, M.V. Rajeev Gowda from Bangalore North, Mansoor Ali Khan from Bangalore Central, Sowmya Reddy from Bangalore South, M. Lakshman from Mysore, and H.R. Algur (Raju) from Bijapur.
In Kerala, the Congress party has nominated candidates for 16 out of the total 20 seats. Rahul Gandhi will contest from Wayanad, M.K. Raghavan from Kozhikode, K.C. Venugopal from Alappuzha, Hibi Eden from Ernakulam, and Shashi Tharoor from Thiruvananthapuram. Mohd. Hamdullaha Sayeed will contest from Lakshadweep.
In Meghalaya, Vincent H Pala will contest from Shillong and Saleng A. Sangma from Tura. Lalbiakzama will contest from Mizoram, while S. Supongmeren Jamir will contest from Nagaland. In Manipur’s two seats, Angomcha Bimol Akoijam will contest from Inner Manipur and Alfred Kanngam S. Arthur from Outer Manipur.
Congress has announced candidates for 13 out of the total 48 seats in Maharashtra. Balwant Basawant Wankhede will contest from Amravati, Ravindra Hemraj Dhangekar from Pune, and Vasantrao Balwantrao Chavan from Nanded. Lalbiakzama has been fielded from Mizoram, while S. Supongmeren Jamir is from Nagaland.
Ve. Vaithilingam will contest from Puducherry, and Gopal Chettri will represent Sikkim. Congress has announced candidates for eight out of 39 seats in Tamil Nadu and eight out of 21 seats in Odisha. In Telangana, the party has declared candidates for 14 out of the total 17 seats.
Tatiparthi Jeevan Reddy will contest from Nizamabad, and Danam Nagender from Secunderabad. Ashish Kumar Saha has been nominated for the Tripura West seat.
It has declared candidates for the three seats in Jharkhand out of 14. In Arunachal Pradesh, Nabam Tuki will contest from Arunachal West, and Bosiram Siram from Arunachal East.
In Andhra Pradesh, Congress has announced candidates for five out of the 25 seats, with Y.S. Sharmila Reddy being fielded from Kadapa. Kuldeep Rai Sharma will contest from Andaman and Nicobar Island, while Ketan Dahyabhai Patel will contest from Daman and Diu.
The election for 543 Lok Sabha seats will be held in seven phases starting from April 19. The counting of votes will take place on June 4. In the 2014 Lok Sabha election, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured 282 seats, while the Indian National Congress (INC) managed to win only 44 seats. In the 2019 Lok Sabha election, the BJP increased its tally to 303 seats, while the INC managed to secure only 52 seats.
