Congress Chief Mallikarjun Kharge has decided to constitute a three-member team to find out the reasons behind the recent widespread violence in Manipur and assess the ongoing situation, the party said on Wednesday.

The team will submit its report to Kharge as early as possible.

Several Congress leaders, including former Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh, met with Mallikarjun Kharge in Delhi and explained everything regarding the situation in the state.

Taking to Twitter, Kharge said, “A delegation of @INCManipur leaders apprised me of the tremendous difficulties that the people of Manipur had to go through during these troubling times.

A team of observers will land in Manipur soon to find out the ground reality of the situation.

However, “the situation in Manipur is still tense and worrying. The Union government should do something to bring normalcy to the northeastern state. Every community has a duty to ensure peace, so we should take everyone in confidence, he added.

Meanwhile, the Central and state governments on Wednesday categorically told the Supreme Court that the status report has been filed and the situation is getting better in the state. Some issues were raised at the state border, where maintaining peace is crucial at the moment.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta told the top court that the intention was to restore peace in the state. He went on to say that a total of 315 relief camps have been established under the supervision of district police and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), and the state government has already sanctioned a contingency fund of Rs 3 crore for relief measures.
