The Karnataka Congress has made a two-hour long bandh call on 9 March a fight against the corrupt BJP government in the state. Stalwarts of Karnataka Congress came into action following BJP MLA Madal Virupaksha’s son Prashant Madal being caught red handed while taking a bribe.

It was reported that over Rs 8 crore in cash was recovered from the accused’s house and office.

As per the Karnataka Congress president, D K Shivakumar, the bandh will take place from 9 to 11 a.m. He went on to say that educational institutions, transportation, and health services will function as usual.

Karnataka Lokayukta officers caught Virupaksha’s son, a chief accountant at the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB), red handed, while he was in contact with a contractor and taking a bribe of Rs 40 lakh from him.

The anti-corruption wing of Lokayukta raided the residence of the accused and recovered Rs 6 crore in cash. However, Rs 1.7 crore was recovered from his office premises.

The Karnataka CM Bommai stressed that an impartial investigation should be conducted against the BJP MLA’s son. The Congress government closed the Lokayukta, which was once again reopened by our government to curb corruption in the state, he said.

We are saying that Lokayukta needs to go for an impartial probe into the matter to unearth the reality.

In fact, the Congress party is not satisfied with Bommai’s view and has demanded his resignation. After recovering the money from the MLA’s son, the BJP legislator resigned as chairman of Karnataka Soaps and Detergents Limited.
