Since the Model Code of Conduct has come into force, the main opposition Congress party is mulling over the finalization of strong and suitable candidates for Lok Sabha polls. Amidst the ongoing political scenario and new political developments taking place day by day, the Congress stalwarts are on toes to strengthen their position as well stature in political spheres. In this regard, it came to the fore that the Congress heavyweight Kumari Selja who holds the portfolio of National General Secretary of Congress may contest polls from Ambala Lok Sabha. Earlier she refused to contest the Lok Sabha election stating that she is willing to contest assembly polls but things seem to be changing as she has started mobilizing her supporters in Aambala constituency. Although Leader of Opposition (LOP) and her arch rival Bhupendra Singh Hooda wants Varun Chaudhary, his confidant and close one, to contest elections from Ambala but the Congress high command is the supreme authority to take final call pertaining to the same.
In this series, it is noteworthy that the way Kumari Selja has suddenly increased her activity in the constituency, the talks that she is going to contest elections from Ambala, continue to surface . It is also discussed that Selja has met former minister Nirmal Singh which led to new political speculations leaving everyone with new political possibilities. Political analysts are of the perhaps he has also received a green signal from the high command to contest elections from Ambala. Notably, Selja has successfully contested the Lok Sabha elections from Ambala in 2004 and 2009. It is pertinent to mention that Congress succeeded in winning elections from Kalka, Narayangarh and Sadhaura assembly constituencies falling Ambala Lok Sabha constituency all three MLA’s winning from the aforementioned seats are believed to be close and supporters of Selja. On the other hand, there are talks that Selja can contest elections from Sirsa Lok Sabha constituency but her supporters believe that it would be better to contest elections from here.
In continuation to aforesaid, it is pertinent to mention that Hooda and Selja are at loggerheads over the battle of dominance with in the party adding to the woes of the party high command . Due to the same, Haryana Congress, a divided house in the state, has failed to come up with prolonged organizational appointments, especially of district presidents. Hooda and the leaders of opposite factions namely Kumari Selja, Randeep Surjewala and Kiran Chaudhary Known as SRK are out over the battle of dominance as well the the supremacy in the state congress for a long time. Notably, Bhupender Singh Hooda and aides have a stronghold in the state Congress which is evident from the appointments made in Election Committee of 24 members formed under the chairmanship of state Congress president Udai Bhan.
