Supporters from the Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) gathered near the Sector 17 police station to protest the Municipal Corporation mayor elections, expressing strong opposition towards the Chandigarh BJP.
In response to the protest, a substantial police presence, including the Rapid Action Force, was deployed around the police station and parking area, with barricades set up to control the crowd. Demonstrators, including AAP and Congress workers, voiced their grievances against the central government and BJP, climbing over the barricades during the protest.
The joint protest by the AAP-Congress alliance, focused on the Chandigarh mayoral election, saw senior Congress leader Pawan Bansal participating and calling for a case to be registered against the presiding officer for alleged negligence.
The protest on Wednesday involved AAP-Congress alliance councilors and workers expressing their dissatisfaction with the election results, culminating in the symbolic act of breaking a pot in protest against the BJP.

Pawan Bansal alleges election officer’s negligence

Chandigarh: Former Union Minister Pawan Bansal has accused the election officer of negligence in his duties, claiming that the officer favored a specific party. Bansal asserted that the returning officer misused his authority and insisted that a case should be filed against him. He further stated that if no action is taken, he and his supporters will stage a protest.
