Despite the Yamuna River’s falling water level in Delhi on Friday, numerous districts of the national capital are still experiencing waterlogging and flooding, causing traffic congestion.
Commuters were spotted pushing their motorcycles through the water on ITO road, while a large traffic jam was seen on NH-24 at the Sarai Kale Khan T-Junction in Delhi.
However, the water level of the Yamuna River at the Old Railway Bridge (ORB) was somewhat lower than that measured at 9 a.m. While it was 208.40 meters at 9 a.m., it was 208.38 meters at 10 a.m. today.
Speaking on the flood situation in the city, Surender Singh Yadav, Special CP, Traffic, said, “4,500 police deployments have been done in all areas of Delhi. The movements of the Kawariyas are also being monitored. A decrease in water level in areas like Kashmiri Gate is witnessed. But the Ring road area towards Wazirabad is still flooded. We are trying to open the Bhairon Marg till evening. Traffic can be witnessed on NH 44.”
The police also stated that traffic has been diverted in many locations of the city owing to waterlogging and flooding. The movement of traffic is prohibited from Shanti Van to Geeta Colony Flyover, as well as from Geeta Colony Flyover to Rajghat and ISBT, Kashmere Gate, according to a tweet from the Delhi traffic police.
According to the police, the Pragati Maidan Tunnel is now open for vehicular traffic, however traffic on Bhairon Road is closed owing to an overflow of drain water near the Railway Under Bridge.
“Traffic movement is affected on Vikas Marg towards ITO due to overflow of flood water. Commuters are advised to avoid this stretch and take route of NH 24 via Akshardham -Nizamuddin-ITO”, the police said in the tweet.
