British rock band Coldplay announced a third concert in Mumbai as part of their “Music Of The Spheres World Tour 2025” due to “phenomenal demand.” This decision came after fans expressed disappointment over long virtual queues on the ticketing platform BookMyShow. All three shows are now sold out.
Ticket Sales
Tickets for the new show, scheduled for January 21 at DY Patil Sports Stadium, went on sale at 2 PM IST. Coldplay confirmed the addition in a post on X, providing a link for ticket purchases. However, reports indicated that the BookMyShow website and app experienced crashes when the sale opened. The hashtags ‘Coldplay,’ ‘BookMyShow,’ and ‘Crashed’ began trending as fans struggled to access the platform.
Coldplay had previously scheduled two shows on January 18 and 19, 2025, at the same venue. Many fans reported that they were unable to purchase tickets even after the official sale time, with tickets remaining unavailable long after the noon deadline.
Overwhelming Demand
A spokesperson for BookMyShow referred to the situation as a “landmark moment” in India’s live entertainment history, highlighting the overwhelming love and excitement from fans. Approximately 1.3 crores fans logged in to purchase tickets, leading to the implementation of a queueing system to manage the demand.
In response to the chaos, BookMyShow acknowledged that the high traffic caused delays, stating, “Because of heavy traffic, the queue is moving slower than expected. Thank you for your patience!”
Caution Against Scalpers
Amid the frenzy, some fans pointed out that other platforms were selling tickets at inflated prices, prompting one user to warn Coldplay about the situation. In response, BookMyShow cautioned fans against unauthorized sellers, stating that such tickets were invalid and that ticket scalping is illegal in India.
“Please don’t fall prey to this because you will be buying fake tickets. Avoid scams! BookMyShow is the only official platform for ticket sales,” they emphasized in a post on X.
Coldplay’s First Visit In 8 Years
The Mumbai concerts will be Coldplay’s first visit to India in eight years, with their last performance taking place during the Global Citizen Festival in 2016. The “Music Of The Spheres World Tour 2025” is set to kick off on October 30 at the Marvel Stadium in Melbourne, Australia, and will conclude on August 31, 2025, at Wembley Stadium in London.
