Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Monday appeared virtually before Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court in connection with a criminal defamation complaint filed against him by Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat.
During the brief hearing, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) Harjeet Singh Jaspal directed Shekhawat to provide specific documents to the accused. The court then adjourned the matter for further hearing on August 28.
The ACMM Jaspal directive came in response to an application put forth by Gehlot’s counsel, who sought the provision of necessary documents.
The Court in its order stated that”The counsel representing the accused has submitted a request for the supply of deficient or illegible documents. A copy has been given to the complainant. The complainant has assured to provide the deficient or legible copies by the next hearing date,” the court said.
Earlier, on August 7, the court had summoned the Congress leader in response to a complaint by Shekhawat.
The complaint pertains to Gehlot’s comments linking Shekhawat to the alleged Sanjivani scam.
The alleged ‘scam’ involves thousands of investors who purportedly fell victim to a fraudulent scheme orchestrated by the Sanjivani Credit Cooperative Society, resulting in approximately Rs 900 crore being swindled under the guise of promising exceptionally high returns.
