As some find it difficult to accept the concept of death, there are some who could accept it gracefully and bravely. In one touching Chinese report, a terminal illness-stricken young woman refused to bemoan her doom but rather enjoy life instead by throwing a farewell party of her own and spreading joy for her last moments.

Jiang Yi, who is 30 and from the Zhejiang province, had been diagnosed with cervical cancer three months ago and was informed she had no longer than two years to live. Determined not to let sorrow consume what remained of her time, Jiang took a courageous and passionate decision. She organized a ‘peace meeting’, an farewell party in which she would be able to thank the people she loved and show that in the shadow of death, too, there is purpose and beauty.

According to the South China Morning Post, Jiang only revealed her diagnosis to her closest friend, Li. At home, she kept things normal with her husband and small child, keeping them from having to bear the burden of her illness. Through it all, she continued despite chemotherapy and the emotional toll of her disease.

But Jiang wanted more than personal determination. She wanted to be connected, to have closure. She planned the event at a local park, where she invited friends, family, and even strangers. It wasn’t a mourning period it was a time of peace. Her parents, loved ones, and old friends all gathered to sit with her and honor life.

Most who came across the get-together were moved by Jiang’s poise and beaming smile. Although clearly weakened, she was surrounded by love. Some onlookers wrote her words of encouragement, others prayed for her, and many referred to her as an ‘angel’.

Her act shortly echoed far outside the park. Jiang’s courage and peace of mind touched hearts on the internet as her story became viral, inspiring thousands of people. Online users praised her as a face of courage and empathy, with many admiring her for standing face-to-face with death with dignity and light.
