In an auspicious ceremony held on Wednesday, Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao officially opened the doors of the first Brahmin Bhavan in the country, an expansive facility, sprawling across nine acres. The Chief Minister reiterated his firm belief that Dharma Vijay, or religious victory, would foster societal growth and enable national progress in the upcoming days.
The Brahmin Bhavan, a groundbreaking project ,constructed at a cost of Rs 120 million, is an embodiment of the state’s dedication to the well-being of the Brahmin community. It is a testament to the administration’s recognition of the invaluable role of Brahmins in society, and their ability to nurture and guide societal growth through their intellectual prowess and spiritual knowledge.
Chief Minister KCR, during his address, emphasised the Telangana government’s commitment to advancing the aspirations of the Brahmin community within the state. “The government is implementing numerous welfare schemes aimed at the educational upliftment of underprivileged Brahmin families,” KCR declared. “Brahminism, an intellectual hallmark of Indian religion, is an invaluable resource that is being nurtured through these initiatives.”
The newly inaugurated Brahmin Bhavan, hailed as the first of its kind in the country, has earned accolades from national leaders of Brahmin associations. “This centre will serve as a safe haven for the preservation of our eternal Sanatan culture, providing benefits to Brahmins across various economic tiers,” the Chief Minister added.
In his commitment to bolstering the welfare of the Brahmin community, Chief Minister KCR outlined the government’s allocation of 1 billion rupees annually for welfare schemes managed by the Brahmin Welfare Council. These initiatives include the Overseas Scholarship scheme, BEST, which has already assisted a total of 780 students and received a funding of 150 crore rupees. Furthermore, the Chief Minister announced plans for the construction of three additional Brahmin Bhavans in Suryapet, Khammam, Madhira, and Beechupally. These facilities will operate under the diligent supervision of the Brahmin Council.
Announcing new welfare schemes, the Chief Minister confirmed an increase in the honorarium for Veda pandits to five thousand rupees, with an age limit extended to 65 years. The Dhoop Deepa Naivedya scheme will be broadened to encompass 6441 temples in the state. Additionally, a tuition fee reimbursement scheme for Brahmin students in IIT and IIM has been put in place, along with an increased annual grant of two lakh rupees for Veda schools.
The grand inauguration of the Brahmin Bhavan, marked by the sacred chanting of traditional mantras and homam, was attended by eminent Brahmins, including the Brahmin Council Chairperson Ramana Chari and Chief Secretary Shanti Kumari. Prominent personalities, such as Minister Sabita Indra Reddy, former MP Captain Laxmikanth Rao, Mayor Vijayalakshmi, MLA Arikepudi Gandhi, Satish Vodithela, MLC Vani Devi, Deshpatti Srinivas, Venu Gopalachari, the head of Telangana State Irrigation Development Corporation, former Chief Secretary Rajiv Sharma, former DGPS Anurag Sharma, and Arvind Rao, graced the occasion with their presence.
As we move forward, the landmark initiative of the Telangana government stands as a testament to the state’s dedication to the Brahmin community and its continuous effort to uphold and nourish Brahminism and its contribution to society.
