The grand opening of a major clothing store, ‘Dream Bazaar,’ in Karachi, Pakistan, turned into chaos as a large crowd overran the store, leading to widespread looting and vandalism. According to local media reports, the incident occurred in Karachi’s Gulistan-e-Johar, where the store opened at 3 pm and was emptied within 30 minutes.

Mob Storms Store Amid Special Discounts

The store had announced special discounts and launched a social media campaign to attract customers. However, the event quickly escalated when the management attempted to close the store. Videos circulating on social media show hundreds of people breaking into the store and causing extensive damage, with clothes strewn across the floor and broken glass everywhere. Some individuals were even seen recording themselves while looting the store. TOI has not independently verified the authenticity of these videos.

Police Response

Local police were reportedly absent during the initial chaos but took control of the situation once they were notified. Management representatives, visible in the videos, expressed their frustration over the incident. “This mall was opened for the benefit of the people of Karachi, and look at what has happened. People need to change. We rarely see significant investments here, and when they do happen, this is the outcome,” one staff member lamented.

The mall, established by a Pakistani-origin businessman living abroad, faced significant damage due to the mob’s actions.
