Chandigarh would now have 3600 LPM pressure swing adsorption oxygen plants in different Government Hospitals; comprising PGIMER, GMSH 16, GMCH 32 and GMCH 48.

This is to ensure uninterrupted supply of this lifeline. PM Narendra Modi virtually along with Banwarilal Purohit, Governor of Punjab & Administrator UT Chandigarh and Member of Parliament Kirron kher inaugurated all these PSA plants.

PGIMER would have two PSA plants; each 1000-litre per minute for 2000 beds capacity PSA medical oxygen plant at Nehru Hospital Extension at PGIMER, GMSH 16 is now having 500 LPM for 500 beds, GMCH 32 has 1000 LPM, GMCH 48 is having 100 LPM PSA oxygen plants.

This is pertinent to state here that as PGIMER is catering to Punjab, Haryana, Himachal, UP patients. In dire need of Oxygen supply, the city is now so far ready for emergency. “This will handle 30 percent of Oxygen requirement of city if needed,” stated Health Secretary Yashpal Garg.

Prof. Jagat Ram Director PGIMER further elaborated, “PSA oxygen generator plant is a source of oxygen that can produce medical- grade oxygen, at scale, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. One more PSA Oxygen Plant will be installed at PGIMER, Chandigarh and these would utilize pressure swing adsorption (PSA) technique and molecular sieve (zeolite) technology to generate oxygen directly from atmospheric air.”

Governor of Punjab stated, “With the installation of this DRDO developed pressure swing absorption (PSA) oxygen plants designed for a capacity of 1000 liters per minute and the system that caters to 190 patients at a flow rate of 5 Litre per minute, PGIMER will now have the option of generating medical oxygen on-site, in a highly cost effective manner.”

Lauding PGIMER for their commendable role during the fight of COVID 19, the Governor said, “Though PGIMER successfully managed and tided over the oxygen crisis during the second wave by efficiently managing the available resources, yet it was decided to upgrade the facilities so that the future needs can also be met.”
