Chandigarh Pradesh Congress staged a significant protest today, condemning the BJP’s ongoing efforts to erode democratic principles and institutions in the country. The party highlighted the recent suspension of 145 MPs from opposition parties in Parliament, contrasting it with the lack of consequences for the BJP leader and MP who invited intruders into the Lok Sabha. The Congress called for an impartial high-level inquiry to uncover any conspiracy leading to the breach of Parliament’s security.
Rajiv Sharma, spokesperson of Chandigarh Congress, emphasized in a press release that over 100 Congress activists, including party president H.S. Lucky, were arrested and taken to Police Station sector 39. The protest began at Congress Bhawan in sector 35, with protesters wearing black dresses and marching towards the BJP office. The agitated activists, carrying black flags and placards, raised anti-BJP slogans and released black balloons to express their dissent against Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who was visiting the city.
H.S. Lucky, President of Chandigarh Pradesh Congress, addressed the protestors, stating that democracy, earned through the sacrifices of freedom fighters, is in jeopardy due to the BJP’s dictatorial and divisive policies. He alleged that the police used excessive force to arrest Congress members who were peacefully protesting.
The Congress party further accused Amit Shah, as the Home Minister, of being responsible for the breach of Parliament’s security without facing consequences.Mahila Congress activists, led by President Deipa Dubey, Youth Congress workers under Manoj Lubana, and NSUI workers led by Sachin Galav, joined the protest. Among those arrested were Ex Mayors Surinder Singh, Kamlesh, Gurcharan Das Kala, H.C Kalyan, councillors Gurpreet Gabi, Taruna Mehta, Jasbir Bunty, Sachin Galav, District Congress presidents Surjit Dhillon and Luv Kumar, among others.
